Die Vanille begann bei den Totonaken in Mexiko, wo ihre Schoten in Ritualen genutzt wurden. Später mischten die Azteken Vanille mit Kakao. Im 16. Jahrhundert gelangte Vanille nach Europa, blieb lange selten, bis Vanillin isoliert wurde und Duft und Geschmack für alle verfügbar machte.

Historische Meilensteine der Parfümeurskunst

Im 19. Jahrhundert nutzten Tinkturen und Balsame natürliche Vanille. 1874 gelang die erste chemische Synthese von Vanillin. 1889 kombinierte Guerlain Vanille mit synthetischem Vanillin in Jicky. 1925 machte Shalimar Vanille zum Herzstück eines sinnlichen orientalischen Duftstils.

Essenz und Ursprung

Vanille ist weiterhin ein begehrter Duftstoff. Jede Orchidee muss von Hand bestäubt werden, die Schoten reifen monatelang, bevor das Aroma extrahiert wird.
